Hello Possums!

Damn, I wish I had thought of Dame Edna before Dame Edna thought of Dame Edna. I got to see her one woman show in SF a few years ago and I laughed so hard I thought I was going to faint. I have a history of doing that. Just this past week-end something made me laugh so hard I had trouble getting my breath. I can't remember what was so amusing. It wasn't the Vikings game OR the weather.

This weather is so depressing. I got here in time to see snow and snow sucks. I am not sure how long it will take my body to adjust to this weather. Last night when I got in bed, the temperature in my bedroom was 76 degrees. That's warm...even for me. I DO, however, enjoy wasting carbon fuels and distorting my carbon footprint. Later today I intend to waste some gasoline, contribute to de-forestation in Brazil, and laugh at the poor and lame.

Hey,
Wait a minute....YOU'RE NOT DAME EDNA!!!
Nice weather here. Only a day or so of rain so far.
40s to low 70s the last week or so.
Have you ever seen the musical Forever Plaid? My fave. Last year they did a holiday version(Plaid Tidings) in Columbia. Really nice.
I'll bother you later.

Forever Plaid! Yes....saw it. I don't have the figure to be Dame Edna. I saw Aretha Franklin tonight on Dancing With The Stars and thought that mu-mu was very slimming. She did a tour about 15 years ago singing standards and it was just spectacular. Aretha was backed up by a full orchestra. Sometime in the ensuing years she ate the entire orchestra and that is why she was wearing that mu-mu. When I was working at WDGY in...perhaps 1968...Aretha Franklin did a concert in Minneapolis and I actually got to see it. I only worked at WDGY for 11 months and I didn't miss a show. I got to see her because the show was delayed for almost 2 hours because she was having a snit...or something. All I know is that we got to go backstage after and she just wasn't...well...normal. It was like she was on some massive dose of Librium. I think that was a 60's drug. Nebutol? She WASN'T drunk. Just zonked. Whatever it was gave her the munchies. Forty years of munchies! A midget circus lost its home when they made that mu-mu.

May I make a political comment? How long before we see some change? Also, are you libs happy we won the war?

I was so disappointed by the new Bond movie! What were they thinking? None of the "Bond Shtick" and just a lot of noisy, confusing, impossible chasing. Even Judy Dench didn't seem interested. You know it's bad when I yearn for George Lazenby(sic).

I was thinking about the Modesto station KO93 moving the tower from on top of the mountain to the valley floor. I wonder what THEY were thinking. I think a lot of the changes made at radio stations (and in politics) are just change for the sake of change and not because something needs changing.

OMG! Where have I been? What are they thinking? WTF?

All this because I saw a promo for a new show on NBC starring Rosie O'Donnell. Have you people heard of this before? She Sings!!!!! The show, World's Scariest Vagina begins next week. (I think that's the name and I think it starts next week) I rather watch Keith Olbermann dance in a canary-yellow thong in the window of Macy's right next to the Mary Tyler Moore statue during the Red Tag Sale than watch Rosie! When soon-to-be-prez Barry was elevated I thought my world was ending. Then the Vikes beat the Pack and life was momentarily good again. And now... that bitch! Damn! I'd rather slide down a razor blade banister into a bathtub of salt-water than even accidentally surf past her show. Once in San Francisco I bought a pair of 100 dollar shoes and on the second day wearing them stepped into some human poop. I tossed the shoes! I would hate to have to throw out a perfectly good High Definition television.....

Yes...also known as the DEVIL INCARNATE. I read something interesting yesterday. Should have saved the link...but anyway...All the political talk is about the demon-crats trying to reinstall the "Fairness Doctrine"..but there is another movement coming from the left....I don't know what it is called but it is sort of a "Local Content Doctrine". In other words, an FCC rule that would effectively mandate local programming origination...virtually outlawing satellite provided programming. THAT would change things I think. Over night you would provide tons of One Thousand Dollars A Month Jobs. LOL

KOSO's studios were 1 block outside the 3.16 MVM signal contour. We asked for a waver and they said they couldn't grant one, but a friendly clerk at the Commission said he would put the request to the bottom of the file so it wouldn't come to the surface to get denied. Perhaps someone got to the bottom and that is why they moved the transmitter to the floor. Just a wild guess, probably not the reason. It would be easier to move the studios. Stupid rules that don't benefit the public in the least.

Wouldn't mind one of those $1000/mo jobs right now, it was a hell of a lot more fun. But that was pretty good money in the '60s and '70s so we'd need to be talkin' today's dollars and, of course that wouldn't be the case at all those small market, satellite fed stations now forced to produce and transmit local programming. Maybe they could raise a few bonus bucks selling their Smartcasters but then again who would buy one?

Just got back from the Left Coast where it was, for the first few days of my visit, record breaking warm. I thought seriously about wandering into Sam Wo's but was only in The City for one day (spent most of my time in the Big Sur area) so didn't have the opportunity. Sodini's got serious consideration for my evening repaste but alas - better avert your eyes - I went for the seafood. Yes, damn it, seafood! Crab Louie at #9 Fishermen's Grotto. Also ate most of a loaf of sourdough so it was a very fine evening indeed.

P.S. Came back to a 3-way tie at the top of the NFC Norris after the Vikes lost to Tampa (no surprise) and the Pack smacked Da Bears (surprise). The Packers are scizophrenic. One week they look like they should be in the Superbowl and the next they look like they couldn't beat the UMD Bulldogs.

HEY! Bulldogs...Undefeated!

Several replies necessary. Deane's mention of the studios being a block outside compliance. Were those the studios at Carpenter & Las Palmas...out in the country? I remember riding around with Bill looking at potential office/studio sites IN Modesto and trying to figure out exactly how far they were and whether they would work. Anyway...when they changed the rule, while Bill was still there and when I was in San Francisco, they moved the Studios into Modesto over by Coffee Road. That was way before the current people moved the tower/transmitter.

I have been a regular social butterfly since getting here. Last night was the masochistic Christmas City of the North Parade. The temp at parade time was surely only about 20 degrees. Fortunately, no wind and I was toasty throughout with 3 pair of socks (hardly could get my shoes on), 3 pair of pants, 2 t-shirts, a hoodie, sweater and over-coat, gloves and a knit cap from Sak's 5th Avenue in San Francisco. The cap was ridiculously expensive and not very warm. In Downtown Duluth, lips were sticking to trumpet mouthpieces and hookers were sticking to the lamp-poles. (In California they spray the lamp-poles with PAM) (In San Francisco the poles are Teflon)

This afternoon the opera HD and got to see The Damnation of Faust. The staging tech stuff was incredible and at the end finally got some of those body tingles....Tonight....going out for pizza and hope your week-end is super.

PS: I would kill for a loaf of good sourdough. Louie can keep his crabs.

Is that game in New Orleans? Is there room in the Super Bowl with all those dead bodies?....I am so sick of New Orleans...I am almost tempted to root for the PACK and just keep the status quo. Wait a minute....the Vikes should win it all...they deserve it because of the bridge devastation. Sad to say the Vikes are probably moving to LA in 2011. That would suck. If Al Franken is senator they will leave out of embarrassment alone. Damn this show is good. Nextel tie-in. These walkie-talkies work good even in freaking Africa! Jack kills someone.

Why did his friend have to die? Jack could have held on to the toe and the heel of the shoe while his friend carefully untied it and wiggled out his foot. Then they could fill the shoe with rocks and molten lead and made their get-away. The lead could have slowly leaked out of a hole in the toe until it got too light and that would be just when the bad guys arrived and said, "Look at the freaking shoe!" And another thing....the OLD Jack Bauer would have killed the little 'cockroach' kid. "Dammit! We don't have time!" I have to go to bed. Nighty.
