I am beaten down. I can't ignore you anymore. So, at my peril. Taking the lackluster career and gutter-tossed reputation, lightly, I throw open this blog to your comments.

Feel free to add your thoughts or stimulate new threads. If I find it offensive, I'll delete it. If you read the blogs and comments quickly, you may see the deletions before they suffer my delete key. Feel free to comment at will and I would enjoy most, hearing from those of you still toiling in the broadcasting grapeyards. I often wonder if it is really bad or am I just another geezer bemoaning the fact that everything was better in the 'old days'.

Now that I've taken this dangerous step...at least will before the night is out...there will most likely be a deep and echoing silence from robsherwood.com bloggers who have nothing to say.

Saw Spiderman 3 today. Why the complaints. I thought is was excellent. Much better than number 2 if you want my opinion. Wait a minute. That didn't sound right. It was better than the second Spiderman movie...not necessarily better than number 2. Of course it was better than number 2. Has anyone ever tried the apricot Cliff Bar? Very good. Especially, washed down with the drink of the gods...Diet Mountain Dew. Have I ever told you that my younger brother is the best cook in our family? He proved it again on Sunday. My mother was a wonderful cook...in my memory...but, in reality she had as many misses as hits and anything unfortunate could always be fixed with melted butter.

I look forward to some dialogue and whether I get it or not...I shall continue.

Hi Rob, I'm one of the many that your U-100 influenced into a radio career. I am currently the APD at talk station WTDY in Madison, and I have a varied background in all formats. I've really enjoyed learning more about you and your career, especially with the U-100 project. I don't think you should beat yourself up about U-100 and it's fate. It was a great radio station that influenced a lot of people in this business. I've been in since 1979, and I can tell you that radio isn't getting bad,in relation to everyone's job. I think people in radio, just like people in other lines of work, our working harder than ever. Sure, there's all the paperwork and dealing with salespeople, but being on the air is still great, and you can't voicetrack a talk show! What is sad is the new people coming into the business. I always ask them, "Who did you listen to on the radio growing up that influenced you to get into radio?" They either answer with a radio station, or give you a blank look. I would rattle off Pat McKay, Larry Lujack, Chuck Knapp, Curt Lundgren, Kipper McGee, Rob Sherwood, Jo Jo Gunne,etc.. We've done a lousy job making people fans of us. The site's great, keep the good stories coming. Chris Murphy/WTDY Madison

Chris, it was nice to see you jump on the new robsherwood.com blog. U100 WAS a great radio station. Perhaps it was the right time in the right place and short-lived as it was, it was sure fun. I can think of other great stations. KOMA in Oklahoma City! Wow, that was something. KDWB in the very early 60's (before I arrived). Another amazing departure from what was at that time, the norm. Those were great days scanning the AM dial late at night picking up fantastic stations from Little Rock, Omaha, Detroit, NYC, and of course the super-power-house Mexican-licensed stations. You are doing talk...I always wanted to try it but never got the chance. Anyone who worked with me through-out the years will attest that I was full of opinions, unafraid to voice them, and leaned to the right....or maybe libertarian....btw...Pat McKay will be thrilled to be included with Larry Lujack, curt Lundren and Rob Sherwood....Take care....Rob

Hey Rob, Anytime you're in Mad-town and want to take a whack at talk, be my guest. You'd be great at it! Take care. Chris

Chris, To be listed in the same sentence as Sherwood, Lujack, Knapp, et al is not only a thrill, it's a travesty! (Although I appreciate the sentiment). When I was at U100 I was like a baby duck just getting it's sea legs, and not in their league. But I stole from all of the aforementioned, and later developed my own style, and like to think I reached a certain degree of expertise. My work at Y103 in Jacksonville, Q105 Tampa, and KBEQ in Kansas City was my best. It is great to see and hear how people felt about U100. I can truly say it was the most fun experience of my radio career. I still drive by the old U100 studios, as I live about a mile away now, and the memories come back..........
